Cosmetic Surgery Jumps 9% in 2010
Breast augmentation, liposuction top list of most popular cosmetic surgical procedures
Plastic surgery procedures increased almost 9% last year compared to 2009, according to the 2010 annual cosmetic surgery statistics from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Breast augmentation was the most popular surgical procedure for the third year in a row. The top nonsurgical procedure was botulinum toxin type A, which includes BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport.
Top 5 cosmetic surgery procedures
According to the Aesthetic Society, more than 1.6 million cosmetic surgical procedures were performed in the United States in 2010. The top 5 cosmetic surgery procedures all showed increases compared to 2009:
- Breast Augmentation
- Liposuction
- Eyelid Surgery (blepharoplasty)
- Tummy Tuck (abdominoplasty)
- Breast Reduction
Top cosmetic nonsurgical procedures
More than 7.7 million cosmetic nonsurgical procedures were performed last year, the report said. Botulinum toxin topped the list, following by laser hair removal, laser skin resurfacing and chemical peels. The popularity of injectables has risen more than 500% since 1997, the first year the ASAPS began collecting stats.
