Women ‘Very Satisfied’ with Buttocks Augmentation
Brazilian Butt Lift combines liposuction with fat transfer to buttocks in ‘2 for 1’ procedure
For women considering plastic surgery in the quest for a curvier backside, the Brazilian Butt Lift is an option that is growing increasingly popular. The procedure not only adds volume to create more definition to the buttocks, but also has the added benefit of liposuction to remove areas of unwanted fat around the thighs, hips and abdomen.
A recent study said that 98% of patients were “very satisfied” with the results of their Brazilian Butt Lift procedure.
The new study, presented at the 2013 annual meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), reported almost universal satisfaction by women who had buttocks augmentation using their own fat. Patients underwent liposuction of the flanks, thighs, saddlebags and sub-gluteal region to harvest fat and provide additional contour and better definition to the buttocks. The harvested fat was then injected into the buttocks.
The surgical team and 58 women who had buttocks augmentation evaluated pre-and postoperative photos to rate their level of satisfaction with the procedure. Of the patient group, 57, or 98%, reported being “very satisfied” with their results. In addition, no major complications were reported. One patient who complained of volume resorption 4 months after surgery received additional fat grafting and subsequently reported being satisfied with her outcome.
“It is important to note that a good result did not depend on a lot of fat infiltration,” said David Reath, M.D., ASPS Public Education Committee chair. “The best aesthetics were achieved when the elimination of fat by liposuction and fat grafting were combined harmoniously.”
The study reminded patients to make sure their procedure is performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon.
“Unfortunately, the increase in women desiring a fuller bottom has led to a rise in illegal buttock injections being performed by people with little to no plastic surgery training,” said Dr. Reath. “It’s important for the public to know that buttock augmentation can be done safely, with excellent cosmetic results, when performed by board-certified plastic surgeons.”
