Facial Rejuvenation Benefits from Long-Term Maintenance
Skin products, sunscreen, injectables and laser treatments can delay surgical need for facelift
Aesthetic experts say that a paradigm shift is occurring in how plastic surgeons address facial aging.
A panel of aesthetic plastic surgeons recently agreed that the best way to address facial aging is to establish a long-term maintenance plan that takes advantage of advancements in skincare products and minimally-invasive treatments. Still, a surgical facelift or neck lift may be necessary to rejuvenate faces with significant wrinkling, sagging and loss of elasticity.
As wrinkles begin to form, the vigilant use of skincare products and sunscreen moisturizes the skin and protects it from the sun’s harmful rays. Injectable botulinum toxin and dermal fillers lessen the appearance of wrinkles and restore volume in the face. Laser treatments are used for a variety of issues including spider veins, skin imperfections, sun damage and signs of premature aging.
A timely surgical procedure, such as a Facelift and Neck Lift, may be considered when these less-invasive, or “nonsurgical facelift,” options fail to produce the desired anti-aging results.
The panel noted that aesthetic plastic surgeons are often the best source for providing expertise, comprehensive care and natural-looking solutions for different types and degrees of facial aging.
The panel discussion on facial rejuvenation and anti-aging was held at The Aesthetic Meeting 2015 May 14-19 in Montreal during the annual meeting of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).
