Body Contouring After Weight Loss on the Rise
Increase in weight loss surgeries has ripple effect in plastic surgery
People who have lost a large amount of weight are sometimes dismayed to find that their skin has stretched and lost much of its elasticity. This condition is common for those who have lost weight after bariatric surgery, such as a gastric bypass or gastric band.
Sagging skin that remains in the thighs, under the arms, around the abdomen and in the breasts often detracts from the aesthetic results of weight loss. Fortunately, plastic surgery procedures associated with massive weight loss can remove and tighten this excess skin. According to the 2014 Plastic Surgery Report from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Body Contouring procedures including tummy tucks, thigh lifts, breast lifts and upper arm lifts grew at their fastest rate in four years in 2014.
